Orientation to Hazards in the
Food Processing Industry

Prerequisite - Anyone wishing to take the Large Employer External Auditor Course must complete this course first.
Although the BC food processing industry is quite diverse, common occupational health and safety (OHS) challenges and opportunities do exist. The aim of this course is to provide an orientation to the food processing industry, so that knowledge about OHS concepts and processes can be shared and applied to meet the specific needs of the industry.


Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain the role of the BC Food Processors Health & Safety Council
  • Describe the stages of production common to all food processors
  • Discuss the various types of injuries that have been experienced within the food processing industry
  • Demonstrate the use of a hazard assessment process as it pertains to specific hazards associated with the food processing industry
